A telephone network carrying a facsimile transmission transmitted by a user from a facsimile transmission source modifies the user's facsimile transmission by incorporating with the user's facsimile information at least one advertisement, so as to form a combination facsimile transmission that is transmitted to a destination specified by the user. Ultimately, when the facsimile is printed or displayed, the advertisement will be printed or displayed as well. One or more "sheets" of facsimile information contained within the original facsimile transmission of the user may have an advertisement included therewith. The advertisement incorporated with each sheet may, but need not, be the same. The particular advertisements being incorporated with the user's facsimile information are independent of the content of the user's facsimile information, although they may be selected as a function of one or more parameters of the call over which the facsimile transmission travels. Depending on the option chosen, the advertisement may a) be placed into any available "white space" in which it will fit on the sheet of the facsimile information, i.e., the advertisement will not overwrite any of the user's facsimile information, b) be placed in available white space only in the margin areas of the sheet, or c) the image of the sheet may be shrunk slightly and the advertisement placed in the resulting available white space. Optionally, in exchange for agreeing to the inclusion of the advertisement the facsimile transmitter and/or the facsimile receiver are granted a discount on the cost of the call.
Un réseau téléphonique acheminant une télécopie envoyée par un utilisateur à partir d'une source de transmission de télécopie modifie cette télécopie en y incorporant au moins une annonce publicitaire, de façon à constituer une télécopie mixte transmise à la destination indiquée par l'utilisateur. Lorsque la télécopie est imprimée ou affichée, l'annonce est imprimée ou affichée en même temps. Une ou plusieurs « feuilles » d'information télécopiée faisant partie de l'envoi originel de l'utilisateur peut comprendre une annonce. L'annonce incorporée à chaque feuille peut être la même, mais pas nécessairement. Les annonces particulières qui sont incorporées à l'information télécopiée de l'utilisateur sont indépendantes du contenu de cette information, bien qu'elles puissent être sélectionnées en fonction d'un ou de plusieurs paramètres de l'appel au moyen duquel la télécopie est acheminée. Selon l'option choisie, l'annonce peut être a) placée dans tout « espace blanc » libre dans lequel elle peut tenir sur la feuille d'information télécopiée, c'est-à-dire que l'annonce n'empiète pas sur l'information télécopiée par l'utilisateur, ou b) placée dans un espace blanc libre seulement dans les marges de la feuille, ou encore c) placée dans un espace blanc qu'on aura libéré en contractant légèrement l'image de la feuille. Optionnellement, en acceptant l'inclusion de l'annonce, l'expéditeur et(ou) le destinataire de la télécopie obtiennent un rabais sur le prix de l'appel.
