ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a method and apparatus for processing loose particulate material by a medium such as hot air, for the purpose of drying pasta products, roasting coffee beans or the like. The air removing moisture from the material is simultaneously utilized to maintain the material in the state of fluidized suspension bed whereby the particles of the processed material are constantly moved relative to each other and relative to the flow of air. A considerably increased drying intensity can therefore be used without damage to the particles as an extremely uniform exposure of all sections of each of the particles is achieved. The air suspension state also prevents soft particles such as pasta product particles from becoming deformed while in a soft wet state, as each of the particles is suspended virtually independent by a flow of air. Microwave heating of air is described as the most feasible way of heating.
