Holographic matched filters for processing temporal- domain optical data that are produced from a spatial- domain "fingerprint" image of temporal-domain data are disclosed. A transmitted optical pulses to be decoded by the matched filter are dispersed by a diffraction grating and processed by interaction with a particular portion of an angularly-encoded hologram having a plurality of areas representing respective code groups. Transmitted signals are routed to the diffraction grating in response to the detection of a packet header code by interaction with a hologram having angularly- encoded packet header codes. Transmitted pulses from one of several interleaved optical signals are demultiplexed by interaction of the multiplexed signals with optical reference pulses in MQW material read by a laser diode, thereby providing data-rate reduction for ultrafast data.
