An apparatus an a method for forming a continuous web of material from a block (1) of material is disclosed. The block (1) is preferably a cylindrical block having a base (16) and a generally vertical central axis (2) extending generally orthogonally from the base (6). The apparatus comprises a rotatable platen (20) such that the block (1) may be rotatably supported, and means (40) for displacing portions of the block (1) defining a displaced portion (42) near the base (6) of the block. A blade (30) is positioned generally parallel to the central axis (2) of the block, the blade (30) positioned to cut into the block (1) a predetermined distance rfrom the central axis (2). The blade (30) has a portion operatively disposed within the displaced portion of the block (1). The apparatus also comprises rotational means for rotating the platen (20); as well as advancement means for linearly decreasing said predetermined distance of said blade (30) from said central axis (2).
Cette invention se rapporte à un appareil et à un procédé servant à former une bande continue d'un matériau à partir d'un bloc (1) de ce matériau. Le bloc (1) est de préférence constitué par un bloc cylindrique ayant une base (16) et un axe central généralement vertical (2) s'étendant généralement parallèlement à cette base (6). Ledit appareil comprend un plateau en rotation (20) conçu pour que le bloc (1) puisse être soutenu en rotation, ainsi qu'un moyen (40) servant à déplacer des parties du bloc (1) définissant une partie déplacée (42) proche de la base (6) du bloc. Une lame (30) est placée généralement parallèle à l'axe central (2) du bloc, de façon à pratiquer des découpes dans le bloc (1) à une distance prédéterminée de l'axe central (2). La lame (30) comporte une partie disposée opérationnellement dans la partie déplacée du bloc (1). Ledit appareil comprend également un moyen de mise en rotation, servant à faire tourner le plateau (20), ainsi qu'un moyen d'avance servant à faire baisser linéairement la distance prédéterminée de la lame (30) à partir de l'axe central (2).
