NHL-MAG-57 METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING A LOCKED, TIGHT PIPE-CONNECTION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the manufacture of a permanent, tight pipe joint between a smooth pipe end and a press fitting surrounding it, whereby the latter is pressed positively and non-positively onto the inserted pipe and by means of a pressing tool applied to it. The invention is characterized by the fact that, after the application of the pressing tool, the pipe already inserted into the press fitting, or the press fitting pushed onto the end of the pipe, is exposed to an adjustable axial force by means of an apparatus located on the pressing tool, and the closing movement of the jaws for the pressing of the press fitting can only be triggered when this force has reached a value which is greater than a specified adjustable response level.
