-9- Abstract of the Disclosure: A filtering method and apparatus has been developed to overcome the analytical problems encountered during the determination of the soluble aluminum in continuous galvanizing baths. The problems are related to the presence of aluminum bearing intermetallic particles in the bath which, depending upon their size and distribution, bias the aluminum analysis. The invention consists in filtering the analytical sample, during the bath sampling operation, in order to remove the intermetallic particles prior to analysis. Sampling and filtering are carried out by vacuum pumping a small quantity of molten zinc through a rigid bonded ceramic particle filter into a suitable container. Following solidification the sample is removed and analyzed in the conventional way.
