A method and apparatus for catalytic production of carbon nanotubes. Catalytic particles are exposed to different process conditions at successive stages wherein the catalytic particles do not come in contact with reactive (catalytic) gases until preferred process conditions have been attained, thereby controlling the quantity and form of carbon nanotubes produced. The method also contemplates methods and apparatus which recycle and reuse the gases and catalytic particulate materials, thereby maximizing cost efficiency, reducing wastes, reducing the need for additional raw materials, and producing the carbon nanotubes, especially SWNTs, in greater quantities and for lower costs.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de production catalytique de nanotubes de carbone. Des particules catalytiques, exposées à différentes conditions de traitement à des phases successives, ne viennent en contact avec des gaz réactifs (catalytiques) que lorsque des conditions de traitement préférées sont atteintes. On vérifie ensuite la quantité et la forme desdits nanotubes de carbone. L'invention concerne également des procédés et des appareils permettant le recyclage et la réutilisation des gaz et des particules catalytiques pour une optimisation de la rentabilité, une réduction des déchets et du besoin en matières premières supplémentaires et une production de nanotubes de carbone, notamment de nanotubes de carbone à simple paroi, en plus grandes quantités et pour un moindre coût.
