Abstract A method and apparatus for producing a mesh film by extruding a tube of a heat-plastified, synthetic resinous material through an extrusion die. A first cooling means is provided in a central location within the extruded tubular film for cooling the internal surface of the tubular film. The first cooling means has an outer diameter substantially equal to the inner diameter of the tubular film. A plurality of cooling nozzles are disposed radially outwardly from the first cooling means for directing a plurality of streams of a cooling gas toward the exterior surface of the tubular film. An annular gas bearing is spaced axially from the first cooling means such that the tubular film passes therethrough after leaving the fir t cooling means, thereby permitting the diameter of the tubular film to be increased subsequently by means of a trapped air bubble therewithin. 34,394-F
