A B S T R A C T. The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for pro- ducing panels, strips, panel-like forms or sections from plastics, preferably thermoplastics, of high mechanical strength, based upon molecular orientation by roll-press-stretching within the roll-gap be- tween at least one pair of pressure- or compression-rolls, at roll- and material-temperatures below the crystallite melting point or the softening temperature of the plastic and above 303 K, under press- stretching, the roll-press-stretching of the panels, strips, panel-like forms or sections being carried out at the same, or nearly the same, peripheral velocity of the pressure- or compression-rolls, or without friction, at pressures of 50 to 250 M Pa, preferably 25 to 150 M Pa, at a degree of press-stretching in excess of 1.1, preferably 2.1. The apparatus consists of one or more pressure-rolls, of which at least one is supported in bearing elements which are adjustable in height, depth and/or laterally, of devices for controlling the tempera- ture of, preferably heating the surfaces of the rolls, and of devices in connection with the bearing elements of the adjustable roll for taking up, in the roll-gap, a linear load of 950 N/mm to 5 500 N/mm.
