A display system (10) that encodes shading in an image to be displayed. The system comprises a video display (22) having a plurality of pixel elements each being mapped to a respective bit within a memory (18), and a controller (20) for energizing, at a predetermined frame refresh rate, the pixel elements according to an image bitmap stored in the memory. An energizing pattern (36) of successive frames, which defines the shading by indicating for each frame whether the pixels of the display generally are to be on or off, is utilized by a process or (12) to generate, at the refresh rate, an encoded bitmap by manipulating bits of a source bitmap (42) as a function of the energizing pattern for each of the frames, and storing the encoded bitmap in the memory.
L'invention décrit un système d'affichage (10) codant les effets d'ombre dans une image à visualiser. Le système se compose d'un afficheur vidéo (22) ayant une pluralité d'éléments pixels qui sont chacun mis en correspondance avec un bit respectif dans une mémoire (18), et d'un dispositif de commande (20) pour exciter, à un taux prédéterminé de régénération d'image, les éléments pixels selon un mode point d'image stocké dans la mémoire. Un motif d'excitation (36) d'images successives définissant les effets d'ombre en indiquant pour chaque image si les pixels de l'afficheur doivent être en général visibles ou invisibles, est utilisé par un processeur (12) pour générer, au taux de régénération, un mode point codé en manipulant les bits d'un mode point source (42) en tant que fonction du motif d'excitation pour chacune des images, et en stockant le mode point codé dans la mémoire.
