An enhanced user interface for a set-top terminal allows audio recordings or sound clips to be played in response to system events occuring within the set- top terminal. The set-top terminal includes a memory unit in which digital audio recordings are stored and a processor for retrieving the recordings and audibilizing the recordings in response to system events such as powering up the set-top terminal, requesting a menu display, or making a selection from the menu.
