A method and apparatus for treating a breathing disorder and, more particularly, a method and apparatus for providing a pressurized air flow to an airway of a patient to treat congestive heart failure in combination with Cheyne-Stokes respiration and/or sleep apnea or other breathing disorders. A positive airway pressure ventilator (52, 60) is utilized in combination with an algorithm that adjusts IPAP and EPAP in order to counter a Cheyne-Stokes breathing pattern. Cheyne-Stokes respiration is detected by monitoring a peak flow of the patient.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif de traitement de troubles respiratoires, et en particulier un procédé et un dispositif destinés à créer un flux d'air pressurisé dans les voies aériennes d'un patient de manière à traiter une insuffisance cardiaque globale et la respiration de Cheyne-Stokes et/ou l'apnée du sommeil ou d'autres troubles respiratoires. Selon l'invention, on emploie un ventilateur de pression positive des voies aériennes en combinaison avec un algorithme ajustant la pression positive des voies aériennes d'inspiration et la pression positive des voies aériennes d'expiration de manière à contrer une respiration de type Cheyne-Stokes. La respiration de Cheyne-Stokes est détectée par contrôle d'un flux de pointe du patient.
