A method and apparatus are provided for enabling a legacy station to perform virtual carrier sensing when a plurality of stations with heterogeneous capabilities coexist in a wireless network. The method includes transmitting first data via a bonded channel which is formed by channel bonding first and second adjacent channels, and receiving second data via each of the first and second adjacent channels, the second data comprising a clear-to-send (CTS) frame or a request-to-send (RTS) frame.

Procédé et dispositif servant à autoriser une station existante à exécuter une détection de porteuse virtuelle quand une pluralité de stations présentant des capacités hétérogènes coexistent dans un réseau sans fil. Ce procédé consiste à transmettre des premières données par l'intermédiaire d'une voie couplée constituée par couplage d'une première et d'une deuxième voie contiguës, et à recevoir des deuxièmes données par l'intermédiaire de chacune de ces première et deuxième voies contiguës, ces deuxièmes données comprenant une trame PAE (prête à émettre) ou une trame DDE (demande d'émission).
