An apparatus (100) for reducing emissions of a combustion engine (110) is disclosed, the apparatus comprising: an energy converter (120) adapted to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy, but having no mechanical coupling to any drive shaft of the combustion engine (110); and an exhaust aftertreatment device (130) adapted to receive the electrical energy from the energy converter (120), receive exhaust gases from the combustion engine (110), and remove pollutants from the exhaust gases.
