A method and apparatus is provided for transmitting a WDM optical signal. The method begins by modulating a plurality of optical channels that are each located at a different wavelength from one another with a respective one of a plurality of information-bearing electrical signals The channel spacings between adjacent ones of the plurality of optical channels are selected such that the optical channels give rise to selected FWM terms that lie outside a channel bandwidth of the optical channels. Each of the modulated optical channels is multiplexed to form a WDM optical signal. The WDM optical signal is then forwarded onto an optical transmission path.
Les procédé et appareil fournis permettent de transmettre un signal optique WDM. Le procédé commence en modulant une pluralité de canaux optiques qui sont alloués chacun à une longueur d'onde différente d'une autre avec un signal respectif parmi une pluralité de signaux électriques de support d'informations. Les espacements de canaux entre les canaux adjacents parmi la pluralité de canaux optiques sont sélectionnés de telle sorte que les canaux optiques créent des termes FWM sélectionnés qui se situent à l'extérieur d'une bande passante de canaux des canaux optiques. Chacun des canaux optiques modulés est multiplexé pour former un signal optique WDM. Le signal optique WDM est ensuite transmis sur une voie de transmission optique.
