A method and apparatus for reducing glare created by oncoming headlights or the sun at either dusk or dawn is disclosed. The method uses a light filter (24) to reduce the intensity of light encountered by a driver from oncoming headlights in a region. The region is defined by the driver's side portion (18) of the windshield (10) and a separatrix (26). The separatrix (26) includes a horizontal segment (28), a vertical segment (30), and a perspective segment (32). The horizontal segment is located between the driver's side portion (18) and the passenger's side portion (20). The vertical segment (30) begins at a central position on the upper portion (14) and ends at the first end of the horizontal segment. The perspective segment (32) begins at the second end of the horizontal segment and extends downward at an obtuse angle towards the driver's side portion ending at the lower portion (16) of the windshield. The light filter uses either tinted elements, polarized elements, or a combination of both tinted and polarized elements for reducing the intensity of the light.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant à un conducteur d'être moins ébloui par la lumière des phares ou par les rayons du soleil levant ou couchant. Ledit procédé utilise un filtre (24) pour réduire, dans une zone, l'intensité de la lumière de phares faisant face au conducteur. Ladite zone est définie par la partie conducteur (18) du pare-brise (10) et une séparatrice (26). Cette séparatrice (26) comprend un segment horizontal (28), un segment vertical (30) et un segment à décentrement (32). Le segment horizontal se trouve entre la partie conducteur (18) et la partie passager (20). Le segment vertical (30) part d'une position centrale au niveau de la partie supérieure (14) du pare-brise et se termine au niveau de la première extrémité du segment horizontal. Le segment à décentrement (32) part vers le bas, selon un angle obtus, à partir de la seconde extrémité du segment horizontal, en direction de la partie conducteur du pare-brise, pour se terminer au niveau de la partie inférieure (16) du pare-brise. Le filtre précité utilise soit des éléments teintés, des éléments polarisés, soit une combinaison d'éléments teintés et d'éléments polarisés, pour réduire l'intensité de la lumière.
