ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method and apparatus for reducing the aluminum content of an alkaline solution. Said solution being treated with a precipitating agent which is selected from the hydroxides of alkaline earth metals, preferably a solid form of calcium hydroxide, the novel method permitting the alkaline solution to maintain a low aluminum content, aluminum being undesirable for solutions used in electrochemical reactions such as in batteries having aluminum anodes.
