The incidence of leaks in crimp sealed electrical devices comprising thermoplastic gaskets can be substantially reduced by preforming the gaskets about the device covers at elevated temperature prior to crimping. The method prevents the formation of cracks in the gaskets which occur especially in crimping operations involving substantial deformation of the gaskets. The method is particularly suited for use in non aqueous lithium batteries wherein the gaskets are typically substantially deformed around complex covers.
