A method and apparatus (10) for treating contaminated soil by breaking up the contaminated soil and separating the soil by particle size (14) and passing the smaller sized soil particles through a series of soil (20, 30) washes in a first direction while directing the washing water in a second direction which is opposite to the first. The apparatus is preferably portable and provides for a continuous cleaning of the soil and recycling of the water in order to allow the decontaminated soil to be immediately returned to the ground.

La méthode consiste à fragmenter le sol contaminé puis à le séparer en fonction du calibre des particules (14) avant de soumettre les particules les plus petites à une série de lavages (20, 30) dans un premier sens, l'eau de lavage étant simultanément orientée dans un deuxième sens, contraire au premier. L'appareil est, de préférence, portable, et permet d'effectuer un nettoyage en continu du sol et un recyclage de l'eau de telle sorte que le sol assaini puisse être immédiatement remis en place.
