ABSTRACT A digital computer system of the type having a digital computer and at least one peripheral data storage device coupled to such computer for interchanging streams of digital data therewith, the storage device and data interchange causing alterations in the relative timing of data bits in the data streams. An improvement for correcting such relative timing changes comprises modulation means connected in the data stream between the data storage device and the computer and having an input coupled to receive signals representative of the storage device output and an output operatively coupled to the computer. The modulation means includes means for producing an error signal which is representative of the alterations in bit timing in the data stream output from the storage device, and further includes means for modulating the data stream between the input and output in accordance with the error signal in a manner which changes the altered bit timing by reducing the extent of the alterations. This results in the bit timing in the data stream outputted to the computer from the storage device conforming more closely to that provided by the computer to the storage device. Thus, extraneous variations in the digital data stream are absorbed and removed.
