The present invention is a method and apparatus for vacuuming toner waste from a toner sump in a xerographic printing machine. A xerographic module in the machine contains a photoconductor, charging devices, a cleaning unit and the toner sump. When the toner sump approaches a full condition, the toner waste must be removed in order to prevent failure of the xerographic module seals. This is accomplished by removing the xerographic module from the machine, opening a sealed toner sump port and attaching a vacuum source to the toner sump port so that the toner waste can be removed with the vacuum source. A disposal adaptor tool sealingly engages the vacuum source to the toner sump at the toner sump port, allowing the toner to removed in a clean glove environment. Once the toner waste is removed from the toner sump, a new toner seal is placed over the toner sump port and the xerographic module is returned to the machine for further use.

Cette invention concerne une méthode et en un appareil servant à aspirer les écoulements de toner d'un carter de toner faisant partie d'une machine à impression xérographique. Un module xérographique de la machine comporte les éléments suivants : un photoconducteur, des dispositifs de chargement, une unité de nettoyage et un carter de toner. Lorsque ce dernier est presque rempli, il importe d'éliminer le toner écoulé pour éviter les défaillances des joints étanches du module. On y parvient en retirant le module xérographique de la machine, en ouvrant l'orifice étanche du carter de toner et en fixant une source d'aspiration à cet orifice pour évacuer les écoulements de toner. Un adaptateur d'évacuation relie de façon étanche la source d'aspiration et le carter de toner au niveau de l'orifice du carter, ce qui permet d'évacuer le toner sans faire de dégâts. Lorsque les écoulements de toner ont été évacués, on met en place un nouveau joint étanche sur l'orifice du carter et l'on réinstalle le module xérographique dans la machine pour le réutiliser.
