ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and an apparatus for retreading vehicle tyres, at which retreading a carcass is provided with a prevulcanized tread and an unvulcanized tiegum layer between the carcass and tread, and at which a microwave applicator is provided above the tread to emit microwaves against the tyre for generating heat en- ergy in the tyre whereby the tiegum layer is vulcanized. According to the invention, the vulcanization of the edges of the tiegum layer is facilitated by a local heating at the edges by heat generation outside the tyre. The heating can be effected either by utilizing a material with a high dissipa- tion factor for microwave energy or alternatively by electric resistance wire.
