A method and apparatus for installing a metal annular seal (54) between the outer rough surface of a casing member (11) which has had a portion thereof cut away with a remaining portion projecting upwardly from the upper end of a casing head (12). A slip installation tool (18) mounted on the upper end of the casing head (12) carries a slip assembly which includes segmented slips (40), a bushing (22), and a cam member (42). The slip installation tool (18) secures the slips (40) about the outer rough surface of the casing (11) with bushing (22) acting as a supporting base or foundation to oppose the forces from the camming action because of support from lock down screws (24). After mounting of the slip assembly about the casing (11), the installation tool (18) is removed, and the metal seal (54) is mounted over the extending end of the casing (11) and deformed into metal-to-metal sealing relation between casing (11) and tubing head (50).
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil servant à installer un joint (54) annulaire métallique entre la surface rugueuse extérieure d'un élément (11) de tubage dont une partie a été coupée, et une partie restante saillant vers le haut à partir de l'extrémité supérieure d'une tête (12) de tubage. Un outil (18) d'installation de coins monté sur l'extrémité supérieure de la tête (12) de tubage porte un ensemble coins qui comprend des coins (40) segmentés, une fourrure (22) et un élément (42) de came. L'outil (18) d'installation de coins permet de fixer les coins (40) autour de la surface rugueuse extérieure du tubage (11), la fourrure (22) servant de base de support ou de fondation opposant les forces produites par l'effet de la came grâce au support constitué par des vis (24) de verrouillage. Après avoir monté l'ensemble coins autour du tubage (11), on enlève l'outil (18) d'installation et on monte le joint (54) métallique sur l'extrémité allongée du tubage (11), celui-ci étant ensuite déformé pour constituer une relation d'étanchéité métal-métal entre le tubage (11) et la tête (50) de tubage.
