A method and apparatus for establishing a voice call to a PSTN extension on behalf of a networked client computer, and routing the voice call off of the network, is provided. In a first embodiment, the apparatus comprises a storage medium having stored therein a plurality of programming instructions for implementing a set of communication services for facilitating establishment of the voice call to the PSTN extension, and an execution unit, coupled to the storage medium, for executing the plurality of programming instructions. The set of communication services include services for soliciting inputs from one or more other apparatuses on one or more operating characteristics associated with the establishment and support of the voice call to the PSTN extension, and selecting either the apparatus itself or one of the other apparatuses to place the voice call to the PSTN extension.
Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé et à un appareil permettant d'établir une communication téléphonique avec un poste du RTPC au nom d'un ordinateur client relié à un réseau, et d'acheminer la communication téléphonique hors du réseau. Selon une réalisation, ledit appareil comprend un support de données sur lequel sont stockées une pluralité d'instructions de programmation destinées à la mise en oeuvre d'un ensemble de services de communications facilitant l'établissement de la communication téléphonique avec le poste du RTPC, et une unité d'exécution, couplée au support de données et conçue pour exécuter la pluralité d'instructions de programmation. Ledit ensemble de services de communications inclue des services visant à solliciter des entrées d'au moins un autre appareil sur au moins une caractéristique fonctionnelle associée à l'établissement et à la prise en charge de la communication téléphonique à destination du poste du RTPC, et à sélectionner soit l'appareil en question soit l'un des autres appareils pour acheminer la communication téléphonique vers le poste du RTPC.
