A method for proving the validity of a record digitally signed by a user having a digital certificate issued by a certification authority within a hierarchy of certification authorities. The user signs the record (502), and obtains the digital certificates and certificate revocation information for all the certification authorities in the chain of the hierarchy extending from the user to the root certification authority. A timestamp is applied to the record (506), the digital certificates and the certificate revocation information to establish a point in time in which all items were created, current and valid. If, at some later point, one or more of the digital certificates either expire or are revoked, the timestamp serves as evidence of the integrity of the signed record.
L'invention concerne un procédé pour vérifier la validité d'un enregistrement signé numériquement par un utilisateur en possession d'un certificat numérique délivré par un organisme de certification faisant partie d'une hiérarchie d'organismes de certification. L'utilisateur signe l'enregistrement et obtient les certificats numériques et les informations de révocation de certificat pour tous les organismes de certification de la chaîne hiérarchique s'étendant de l'utilisateur à l'organisme de certification d'origine. Une heure système est appliquée sur l'enregistrement, les certificats numériques et les informations de révocation de certification, de manière que soit déterminé un moment dans le temps auquel tous les articles ont été créés, existants et valables. Si, à un moment ultérieur, quel qu'il soit, au moins un des certificats numériques arrive à expiration ou est révoqué, le temps système sert à prouver l'intégrité de l'enregistrement signé.
