ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method for separating a desublimatable component from a gas mixture onto the surface of a heat exchanger apparatus having a heat exchanger separator containing a cold end and a warmer end, comprises flowing the gas mixture through the separator from the warmer end toward the cold end to produce a layer thickness profile of desublimate on the surface of the heat exchanger separator in a direction opposite the direction of flow of the gas mixture, and providing a nonstationary temperature distribution in the heat exchanger separator to shift the position of the dew point at a controlled speed from a given point near or at the cold end of the heat exchanger separator at the beginning of the separation process to the warmer end of the separator. An apparatus is provided for practicing the method.
