A B S T R A C T In the purification of a stream of gas having a number of components it is known to remove unwanted components by adsorption in a pressure swing adsorber. However a pressure swing adsorber is inefficient in that the spent adsorbate is usually regenerated using a counter flow of purified feed gas. The present invention overcomes this drawback by providing a method and an apparatus for pressure swing adsorption where in the adsorbate is regenerated by separation and evacuation of one of a series of zones in which the spent adsorbate is located.
