An apparatus for separating liquid from a gas stream. The apparatus includes an elongated housing having a cylindrical inner surface and a gas stream inlet that is tangential to the side wall of the housing so as to cause the entering gas stream to swirl within the housing. A gas stream outlet is located at the top of the housing and a liquid outlet at the bottom. The gas stream outlet can include an elongated tubular member that extends into the housing and has an opening that is located below the housing gas stream inlet. Liquid components of the gas stream separate from the stream under the influence of centrifugal forces that are created by the swirling flow path of the stream without the housing. A liquid outlet and liquid outlet valve are provided for maintaining a minimum level of liquid within the housing so as to maintain a liquid seal within the housing. A power generation apparatus having two or more of the separators for separating liquid from fuel cell and fuel processor steams. Methods for manufacturing an apparatsus for removing liquid from a gas stream and methods for separating liquid from a gas stream are also provided.
L'invention concerne un appareil permettant de séparer un liquide d'un flux gazeux. Cet appareil comprend un logement allongé présentant une surface intérieure cylindrique et une entrée de flux gazeux tangente à la paroi latérale du logement afin d'amener le flux gazeux entrant à tourbillonner dans le logement. Une sortie de flux gazeux est située sur la partie supérieure du logement et une sortie de liquide est située sur sa partie inférieure. La sortie de flux gazeux peut comprendre un élément tubulaire allongé qui s'étend dans le logement et qui présente une ouverture située au-dessous de l'entrée de flux gazeux du logement. Des composants liquides du flux gazeux se séparent du flux sous l'effet des forces centrifuges créées par le chemin d'écoulement tourbillonnant du flux dans le logement. Une sortie de liquide et une valve de sortie de liquide permettent de maintenir un niveau minimum de liquide à l'intérieur du logement de façon que soit maintenu un joint liquide à l'intérieur du logement. Un indicateur de niveau peut éventuellement être présent afin de surveiller le niveau de liquide à l'intérieur du logement. L'invention concerne également un appareil de production d'énergie qui présente au moins deux séparateurs permettant de séparer un liquide de flux de pile à combustible et de flux de convertisseur de combustible. L'invention concerne en outre des procédés de production d'un appareil permettant d'éliminer un liquide d'un flux gazeux ainsi que des procédés permettant de séparer un liquide d'un flux gazeux.
