A method and apparatus for the shaping of a part of a plant. To this end, the plant and cutting means are rotated with respect to each other and excess material is removed. These cutting means can be either moveable or fixed in relation to the surroundings. The point of contact of the cutting means and the plant lies, as far as possible, 'upstream', seen in the direction of rotation. The plant can then be potted and the pot can be rotated or, the plant can be stationary while the cutting means rotates with respect to the central axis of the plant.
