ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pressurized system for simultaneously removing oversized materials from fiber suspension, such as separating knots from pulp stock, and dewatering the fiber suspension. The system comprises an elongated barrel having an apertured shell which constitutes a screen for sorting particles in the fiber suspension according to size. A screw is rotatably mounted in the barrel for transporting the fiber suspension along the inner surface of the barrel while water is being expressed from the fiber suspension through the apertured shell, entraining therewith accepts to egress the elongated barrel. The characterizing feature of the invention resides in that the screw is rotated at a relatively high speed to maintain the rejects arrested by the apertured shell in a fluidized state, thereby preventing the rejects from agglomerating into a semi-solid mass, which would cause excessive accepts carry-over with the rejects.
