ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel petroleum product processing technique and apparatus for extracting usable petroleum products from oil shale, in particular a method for extracting bitumen from kerogen bearing mineral ore in steps comprising: pulverizing the ore; contacting the ore with heated bitumen at a temperature within the range of approximately 300°C to 400°C to convert the kerogen in the ore to bitumen and physically separating the bitumen from the remaining ore solids. The method has improved yield with a relatively emission free and environmentally acceptable procedure.
