A method and apparatus for sorting particles (Fig. 1) caried in a fluid suspension that are moving through a closed channel of a microstructure system (10), wherein a bubble valve (25) is used to selectively generate a pressure pulse to separate a particle (18b) having a predetermined characteristic.
