A method and apparatus is disclosed which spatially enhances stereo signals without sacrificing compatibility with monophonic receivers. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a stereo enhancement system (60b) is implemented using only two op-amps (51, 52) and two capacitors (C1 and C2) and may be switched between a spatial enhancement mode and a bypass mode. In other embodiments, simplified stereo enhancement systems are realized by constructing one of the output channels as the sum of the other output channel and the input channels. In other embodiments, a pseudo-stereo signal is synthesized and spatially enhanced according to stereo speaker crosstalk cancellation principles. In yet other embodiments, the respective spatial enhancements of monophonic signals and stereo signals are integrally combined into a single system capable of blending, in a continuous manner, the enhancement effects of both.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil qui améliorent spatialement les signaux stéréophoniques sans effets néfastes sur la compatibilité avec les récepteurs monophoniques. Selon une forme d'exécution de la présente invention, un système d'amélioration de la stéréophonie (60b) comprend uniquement deux amplificateurs opérationnels (51, 52) et deux condensateurs (C¿1? et C¿2?) et il peut être commuté entre un mode d'amélioration spatiale et un mode mettant en veilleuse ce mode. D'autres formes d'éxécution concernent des systèmes simplifiés d'amélioration de la stéréophonie réalisés pour qu'un des canaux de sortie soit constitué par addition de l'autre canal de sortie avec les canaux d'entrée. Dans d'autres formes d'exécution, un signal pseudo-stéréophonique est synthétisé et amélioré spatialement, conformément aux techniques visant à supprimer les interférences mutuelles entre les haut-parleurs stéréophoniques. Dans d'autres formes d'exécution encore, l'amélioration spatiale des signaux monophoniques et celle des signaux stéréophoniques se font en totalité dans un seul système combiné pouvant assurer, d'une manière continue, une amélioration simultanée des deux signaux.
