A method and system achieving increased steering precision of flexible, metallic endless belts of continuous metal-casting machines. Such belts often have imperfections for example, low-carbon steel belts, generally have a "camber" curvature of their edges in their plane. Belts revolving in the machine normally are steered through sensing side-to-side position of one edge. The edge passes a sensor during every revolution of the belt. If the edge has camber, a prior art steering system continually will "hunt" in response to variations in side-to-side position of the cambered edge. This hunting causes repeated side-to-side belt motions, thereby inducing wear of belt coatings under edge dams, causing non-uniform heat transfer. Hunting also induces diagonal stresses and flutes in casting belts adversely affecting casting. The present sensor circuit following the "Cue" governs steering, thus eliminating or substantially reducing prior-art "hunting" steering problems.
