An apparatus for stimulating the visual system of a person, the apparatus comprising: a pattern having regions which contrast visually, the regions being located at a predetermined distance or arrangement relative to each other and means for moving the pattern relative to the field of vision of the person at a speed equal to or greater than a speed where the regions appear, to the person, to begin to blur.
