A method and apparatus for supporting an emergency call in a wireless communication system including a wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) sends an emergency call message to a base station of the WMAN to make an emergency call along with an emergency call indication. The base station then admits the emergency call with or without performing a security procedure and connects the WTRU to an emergency call center. The base station and the WTRU may communicate capability information regarding support of emergency calls. Location information of the WTRU is also forwarded to the emergency call center. The base station may work as a proxy for the WTRU if the WTRU does not have all the required functionalities to complete the emergency call. The WTRU may be a multi-mode WTRU capable of communicating with two or more radio access networks (RANs).
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant de prendre en charge un appel d'urgence dans un système de communication sans fil comprenant un réseau métropolitain sans fil (WMAN). Une unité émettrice/réceptrice sans fil (WTRU) envoie un message d'appel d'urgence à une station de base du WMAN pour passer un appel d'urgence avec une indication correspondante. La station de base accepte ensuite l'appel d'urgence avec ou sans exécution d'une procédure de sécurité et relie l'unité WTRU à un centre d'appels d'urgence. La station de base et l'unité WTRU peuvent échanger des informations de capacité concernant la prise en charge d'appels d'urgence. Des données de localisation de l'unité WTRU sont également transmises au centre d'appels d'urgence. La station de base peut fonctionner en tant que proxy pour l'unité WTRU si celle-ci ne dispose pas de toutes les fonctionnalités requises pour passer l'appel. L'unité WTRU peut être de type multimode pouvant communiquer avec deux ou plus réseaux d'accès radio.
