ABSTRACT The head crash problem or flying head slider wearing problem in magnetic disk storage apparatus with lubricant coated magnetic disks is reduced. By arranging a lubricant evaporating source which fills up the inside of the air-tight enclosure with lubricant vapor, the evaporation and consumption of the coated lubricant layer on the disks is suppressed, which results in keep- ing the layer well stabilized through long operating durations. The evaporating surface may be arranged on the inside wall of the enclosure, on a dummy surface of disks, or on a portion exposed to the circulating hot air flow inside the enclosure. A porous struc- ture or rough structure of the base plate of the source is effec- tive in accelerating the evaporation of the lubricant in the source and in providing a strong adhesion of the lubricant material to the base plate of the source.
