The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for synchronization, of at least two time stamping clocks (213; 214; 310, 311) in a network, with high accuracy as well as a method for measuring transmitting delays of packets, with high accuracy. In more detail the present invention comprises a GPS-receiver (207; 307) which supplies TOD (Time of Day) and PPS (Pulse per second) to a synchronization function (209, 210; 308, 309). The synchronization function uses TOD to be able to calculate an absolute time for said time stamping clock. This arrangement allows for a synchronized absolute time between the time stamping clocks in the different nodes (101, 102; 201, 202; 301, 302) with a resolution of 1 second. The PPS pulse is used to synchronize the clocks with an accuracy of 1 microsecond. The time stamping clocks in the different nodes in the network is phase-locked to network- synchronization clocks (205; 305). By adjusting the frequency of the time stamping clocks a suitable resolution can be obtained within each second.
Cette invention concerne un appareil et un procédé qui permettent de synchroniser avec une grande précision au moins deux horloges de marquage de l'heure (213; 214; 310, 311) dans un réseau. Cette invention concerne également un procédé permettant de mesurer avec une grande précision les retards de transmission de paquets. D'une manière plus détaillée, cette invention fait appel à un récepteur de type GPS (207; 307), lequel va envoyer des données relatives à l'heure journalière (TOD) et des données de type impulsions par seconde (PPS) vers une fonction de synchronisation (209, 210; 308, 309). Cette fonction de synchronisation va utiliser les données TOD afin de calculer une heure absolue pour l'horloge de marquage de l'heure. Cette structure permet d'obtenir une heure absolue synchronisée et d'une résolution de 1 seconde entre les horloges de marquage de l'heure dans différents noeuds (101, 102; 201, 202; 301, 302). L'impulsion de type PPS est utilisée afin de synchroniser les horloges avec une précision de l'ordre de 1 microseconde. Les horloges de marquage de l'heure dans les différents noeuds du réseau sont verrouillées en phase avec les horloges de synchronisation du réseau (205; 305). Il est ainsi possible d'obtenir une résolution acceptable à l'intérieur de chaque seconde en ajustant la fréquence des horloges de marquage de l'heure.
