ABSTRACT The invention concerns taking X-ray pictures by ionography. The object to be studied is irradiated by X-rays which then fall on an ionisation chamber containing a pair of electrodes. The ions so generated cause areas of charge to be generated on an insulated sheet in the chamber which can subsequently be developed. The ionisation chamber is arranged so that the X-rays passing through it are always normal to the electrode surfaces and in a preferred arrangement this can be done by spherically curving the electrodes so that their centres lie on the X-ray source. The electrodes may alternatively be cylindrical.
