2072101 9013102 PCTABS00002 The method and apparatus for testing a personal barrier (G) such as a medical glove comprises establishing a reference circuit through the body (S) of an individual wearing the personal barrier (G). An electrical lead (24) is connected with a saline solution (32) or the body (P) of the patient. The defective personal barrier (G) is identified through the establishment of an external circuit through the practitioner and the test solution or the patient. An alarm (40, 42) is sounded to alert the wearer to the defective condition. The detection is preferably accomplished by means of sensing the resistance of the external circuits.
