An apparatus for collecting, separating, testing and storing small quantities of blood or other bodily fluid in situ. The apparatus includes a collection chamber which is abutted by a filter made of a thin sheet of fibrous material having an average pore size of less than 3 microns, The fibrous material has been treated with a mixture containing 1-40 % wt/vol carbohydrate and 0.1-15 % wt/vol non-specific protein. A preferred carbohydrate/protein mixture comprises about 10 % mannitol and about 6 % albumin. The blood or other fluid moves through the filter card by capillary action aided by an absorbent matrix with a high Klemm factor which abuts the filter card. The absorbent matrix and/or filter card can be treated with a wide spectrum of test reagents. The speed and efficiency of the separation process can be altered by: (a) changing the concentration of the carbohydrate/protein in the mixture; (b) applying pressure to one side of the filter, and/or (c) varying the relative density and pore size of the filter card and absorbent matrix.
L'invention concerne un appareil pour recueillir, séparer, analyser et conserver in situ de petites quantités de sang ou d'un autre fluide du corps. L'appareil comporte une chambre collectrice qui jouxte un filtre constitué d'une mince feuille d'un matériau fibreux dont les pores ont une taille moyenne inférieure à 3 microns. Le matériau fibreux a été traité par un mélange contenant 1-40 % en poids/volume d'hydrate de carbone et 0,1-15 % en poids/volume de protéine non spécifique. Un mélange préféré hdyrate de carbone/protéine est constitué par environ 10 % de mannitol et par environ 6 % d'albumine. Le sang ou autre fluide traverse la carte filtrante par effet de capillarité, aidé en cela par une matrice absorbante avec un facteur de Klemm élevé, jouxtant la carte filtrante. On peut traiter la matrice absorbante et/ou la carte filtrante avec différents réactifs de dosage/détection. La vitesse et l'efficacité du processus de séparation peuvent être modifiées (a) en changeant la concentration du mélange hydrate de carbone/protéine dans le mélange et/ou (b) en appliquant une pression sur un côté du filtre et/ou (c) en modifiant la densité relative et la taille des pores de la carte filtrante et de la matrice absorbante.
