ABSTRACT The invention relates to a method for the continuous production of chipboard, fibreboard, plastic board and plywood. The method makes use of a continuously operating press having flexible continuous steel bands transferring the pressure and drawing the feedstock through the press. The bands are carried over driving drums and idler drums around the press table and press ram and are backed against the press table and press ram with and adjustable press gap by accompanying roller rods guided with their axes across the band's direction of movement. The compression angle of the entry gap is made variable by an adjusting system. The compression of the feedstock in the entry gap takes place in two stages, a light compression being set in the first stage from 0.5° to heavy compression up to about 5° from the horizontal, and a heavy compression being set in the second stage from about 7° up to a pressure relief of about 1.0° from the horizontal. The first transition between the two stages is set convexly or concavely and the second transition between stages is likewise set convexly or concavely. The invention relates also to an apparatus for carrying out the method.
