A tobacco enhancement apparatus comprises a tunnel (12) having a vibratory conveyor floor (18), and an inlet (14) for receiving unexpended tobacco shreds. A steaming and swirling station (32) is located downstream of the inlet and comprises an array of overhead steam nozzles arranged above the floor for steaming and expanding the shreds. The steam nozzles are positioned and angled to create vortices amongst the shreds. A conditioning venturi station (50) is located downstream of the steaming station for prolonging the exposure of the expanded tobacco shreds to conditions of increased vapour pressure. A setpoint controller (198) is provided for automatically monitoring and adjusting the downward angle of the steam nozzles, the steam pressure, the height of the nozzles, the height of the venturi station and the temperature of the expanded tobacco.
L'invention concerne un appareillage d'amélioration tu tabac, comprenant un tunnel pourvu d'un plancher transporteur vibrant et d'une entrée destinée a recevoir du tabac haché non expansé. Un poste de vaporisation et de tourbillonnement est situé en aval de l'entrée, et comprend un groupement de tuyères à vapeur disposées au-dessus du plancher afin de vaporiser et d'expanser le tabac haché. Les tuyères à vapeur sont positionnées et présentent un angle de façon à créer des tourbillons parmi les hachures de tabac. Un poste de conditionnement venturi est situé en aval du poste de vaporisation pour prolonger l'exposition du tabac haché expansé à des conditions de pression de vapeur accrue. Une commande de point de réglage est prévue pour contrôler et ajuster automatiquement l'angle des tuyères à vapeur vers le bas, la pression de vapeur, la hauteur des tuyères, la hauteur du poste venturi et la température du tabac expansé.
