- 1 - Abstract A method and apparatus for producing steel from iron-ore dust by direct reduction, whereby the said iron-ore dust is pre- heated and is then reduced with a mixture of gas containing a monoxide, the reduction product being introduced, with a gaseous carrier, into a bath of molten iron, below the surface thereof. The invention reduces the number of steps normally necessary to produce steel directly from iron-ore dust and eliminates problems encountered in the prior art, namely the reoxidation of the prereduced material and collapse of material during reduction.
