ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus for the ?at treatment and deacidification of a finely divided calcium carbonate containing raw material wherein the finely divided raw material is preheated with hot exhaust gases from a rotary kiln, the preheated material is introduced into the rotary kiln for passage therethrough, and coarse pieces of solid fuel are introduced into the inlet of the rotary kiln on top of the finely divided raw material to achieve a more efficient deacidification of the calcium carbonate.
