Abstract of the Disclosure A method and apparatus for analyzing tire tread patterns comprises: providing a high contrast image of the tire tread contact area, illuminating the image, optoelec- tronicaily converting luminous energy from the image to an electrical signal indicative of the tread contact area, providing a reference indicative of a control base contact area and, comparing the signal to the reference to provide a readout indicative of the difference with respect to the reference. The foregoing abstract is not to be taken as limiting the invention of this application, and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this application, reference must be made to the accompanying drawing and the following detailed description.
