ABSTRACT There is provided both method and apparatus for trans- mitting and receiving an analog signal which involves encod- ing and decoding the signal. The transmission process in- volves the steps of: a) converting a basic analog signal into a parallel digital signal; b) applying to the parallel digital signal a prede- termined code; c) converting the coded digital signal into a coded analog signal having a band-width substantially identical with that of the basic analog signal; and d) transmitting the signal thus coded in analog mode. The receiving process involves subjecting this coded analog signal successively to stages which are the inverse of stages c), b) and a), the inverse coding algorithm being the homologue of the coding algorithm corresponding to the prede- termined code.
