The present invention relates to a mobile communication system, and in particular, to a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving a PDU including an Extension Bit field and a Length Indicator field in a UE or a Node B. A method for transmitting a PDU generated with more than two SDUs and a header having information on each SDU in a transmitter of a mobile communication system is provided. The method includes generating, in the header, a Length Indicator (LI) indicating an end point of each of remaining SDUs except for the last SDU and an Extension Bit indicating the presence/absence of another LI after each LI, and generating the header so that the LI succeeds the Extension Bit associated therewith; generating the PDU with the generated header and the SDUs; and transmitting the PDU.

L'invention porte sur un système de communication mobile et particulièrement: sur une méthode et un appareil de transmission et réception d'une PDU incluant un champ de bits d'extension et un champ d'Indicateurs de longueur dans une UE ou un Noeud B; sur une méthode de transmission de la PDU produite avec plus de deux SDUs et un en-tête comportant des informations sur chaque SDU dans l'émetteur d'un système de communication mobile. La méthode comprend les étapes suivantes: production dans l'en-tête d'un indicateur de longueur (LI) indiquant le point d'extrémité de chacun des SDUs restants saut du dernier et un bit d'extension indiquant la présence/absence d'un autre LI après chaque LI; production de l'en-tête pour que les LIs succèdent aux bits d'extension leur étant associés; et production de la PDU avec l'en-tête produit et le SDU; et transmission de la PDU.
