A method and an apparatus are provided for enabling a legacy station to perform virtual carrier sensing when a plurality of stations with heterogeneous capabilities coexist in a wireless network. The method includes receiving first data via a bonded channel formed by channel bonding first and second adjacent channels, and transmitting second data via each of the first and second adjacent channels, the second data being a clear-to-send (CTS) frame or a request-to-send (RTS) frame.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil destinés à permettre à une station existante de réaliser une détection de porteuse virtuelle lors de la coexistence d'une pluralité de stations présentant des capacités hétérogènes dans un réseau sans fil. Le procédé consiste à recevoir des premières données par l'intermédiaire d'un canal formé par agrégation d'un premier canal et d'un second canal adjacents, et à transmettre des secondes données par l'intermédiaire desdits premier et second canaux adjacents, ces secondes données étant une trame "prêt à émettre" (CTS) ou une trame "demande d'émission" (RTS).
