A calling party controls the transmission of information over a telecommunications network (12). During a telephone conversation, the calling party presses a specific key of a telephone keypad (30) to select a block of data for transmission. The selected block of data is then passed from a memory (34) to aninterface device (42) that transmits the data over the telecommunications network (12) to the called party. In one embodiment, the memory used to store the information is located in a removable device that is carried by the calling party.
